FINALLY a horse trainer who used a REAL first time horse to demonstrate his technique. So tired of these so-called horse trainers who say that their video is with a first-time horse, only for the horse to hop into the trailer before they can finish their opening sentence. Must be because they are such extraordinary trainers…right.

very gently with the lightest touch cup the front of the pastern/fetlock, lean into the shoulder, and with the same elbow as the hand cupping the hoof push ask for the horse to bend the joint above the cannon

Some ottbs would take off and crash through your round pen. In the very beginning, I've had it happen. I always use a longe line.

Love what I saw, and also stressing look at behaviour is normally cause by discomfort. As a Bowen Therpiast this has given me another tool in my toolbox working with horses.

How big is this round pen?

My brood made I purchased recently had an injury to the face/ neck about 6 months before I bought her. She ran into a tree at a run/slip according to her previous owner. She is the most gentle horse but has a complete aversion to turning to the right. I don’t force it, try neck flexion exercises but can tell she’s in pain on that side. I’m being patient and won’t risk doing further damage. She was seen by a vet for treatment after her injury according to the previous owner.

Was struggling for the longest to get my horse to walk on when asked since he has been out of training for a while- this solved it instantly when I did it! Thanks.

My horse keeps pulling his head to the right wall (away from me)….. and he starts cheeing on the wall or the halters that are there. I always try to pull his head back to me by holding his nose with my rigth hand. His head is too heavy for me to keep pulling him back all the time and he never understands that he is not allowed to pull away..Do you have a tip for this issue?

What if they stop and turn and stare at you and don't go forward. do I just keep walking up and reposition and send off again?

I think we can do better by our horses. This is a great example understanding behavior, listening to our horses, and learn to have an educated eye. I also think we can prevent a lot of this by slowing things down when it comes to training young horses. Teach them self carriage on the ground and not back them so young. We now know that the horse’s spine (which is suspended and has no supports except on each end) is the last to develop at the approximate age of eight years. We also know that a three year old horse is like a nine year old child (yrs x3) so we need to think about that when we are working with these young minds. We also know that their mouth is like our hand. They like to put their mouth on things just like a child wants to touch and feel things. And male horses are especially mouthy they are just being like little boys it’s their nature for quite a few years , then it tends to wear off as they mature. Definitely interesting thank you!

I'm so happy I found your channel. I just got an ottb and want to really give him a good restart.

OTTB from the tracks are always uncontrollable and unbalanced on the right hand work as they only work on the left hand as racers.

We adopted an ottb ( unsanctioned racing) who is really trying but is explosive when reacting. She raced 13 years, spent a few years with an owner who starved her so law enforcement took her to rescue now she's ours. She hates hands on her. I can rest my head against her but as soon as she feels a hand on her back or neck she backs away, and vigorously nods her head. I'm thinking of using treats to get her to accept hands on her, I like how your horse responded to treats. I needed to see this Thank you.

How to keep your horse in gait

Hi my friend has a horse that I'd badly head flicking and been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. They have suggested it be euthanized as little is know about successful treatment. I just cant let this go and I'm looking for ansers and advice on what to try or do.
